After being closed for some time, the chapel and land were put up for sale in November of 1996. The community expressed concerns about the sale in an article in the New Mexican newspaper.

The Archdiocese of Santa Fe expressed concern regarding the planned sale as it was their intention that the building be used for and by the community.

The owners and the Archdiocese agreed to release the building and land to the community if, within a three year period, we placed $75,000 in materials and labor into a fund for the chapel renovation.

The community rose to the occasion and replaced the roof, fixed drainage issues and restored many of the damaged stained glass windows.  The value of the work and materials donated by the community exceeded $78,000 within the three years. The property and deed were turned over to the Our Lady Of Light Historic Foundation.

Since then the community has held fundraisers and done small repairs, but the project has exceeded the resources this small community can provide. The estimate for completing the restoration is around $370,000. Currently, the board is getting grants written and searching for other means of funding.

There is much work to be done, but we are confident that we can suceed in making this building a center for our community once again.
